TheAM core beliefs
The essentials of the Christian faith
The Anglican Mission celebrates unity in the essential elements of Christian faith, worship, life and ministry. Like trees planted at the waters edge, our Anglican roots are nourished by three streams: the Scripture, the Sacred and the Spirit.
We hold that Scripture guides our lives and is authoritative for us individually and for the Church at large.
We believe the Sacred is embodied in the practices and teachings Christians have held throughout the centuries as expressed in the historic Creeds and 39 Articles of Religion. Our faith has many forms of worship including the sacraments instituted by Jesus.
We trust God's Spirit is at work in the Church and the world, manifesting His power and preparing us for ministry.
These three streams flow from one source-the truth of our Christian witness as taught by Jesus and His apostles, and together, the Scripture, the Sacred and the Spirit form a river that defines the core values and distinctives shape our identity and guide our words, actions and worship.
At theAM, we also believe God has a specific mission for everyone - including you! We believe serving others puts our Faith in Action, creating a tangible expression of God's love and transforming power to change our communities everywhere.

FAST FACTS
- The Anglican Mission was formed in 2000 as a response to a crisis of faith and leadership in The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. Beginning with seven to eight congregations, the number of affiliated faith communities (congregations and fellowships) has grown steadily since then and has a significant number of emerging works in process. See the current church count here.
- The first two bishops, Chuck Murphy and John Rodgers, were consecrated in Singapore in January of 2000, with four bishops consecrated in Denver in June of 2001. Three additional bishops were consecrated in Dallas in January 2008, and another three were consecrated at a service in Pasadena in September 2009.
The Anglican Mission developed a structure of regional networks based on affinity and geography, rather than dioceses. - The Anglican Mission is committed to leadership development, utilizing mentors and coaches.
- The Anglican Mission focuses on putting our faith into action.
- Anglican Mission bishops are members of the Rwandan House of Bishops, and their consecrations were conducted according to the Constitution and Canons of the Province of Rwanda, with Anglican Mission clergy received and ordained under its authority. The bishops who provide oversight to the Anglican Mission are not "Anglican Mission bishops" but rather bishops of the Province of Rwanda and members of its House of Bishops. The Anglican Mission is under the direct authority of the Province of Rwanda and its Archbishop and is given the responsibility to lead Rwanda's missionary outreach to North America.
- The Anglican Mission played a significant role in establishing the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) which was formally constituted in the summer of 2009.
- We are a Ministry Partner with the ACNA while remaining under the spiritual and canonical authority of the Province of the Anglican Church of Rwanda.
- Neither the Anglican Mission nor the Province of Rwanda makes any claim on real property or other assets held by our affiliated congregations.
