Hudson Anglicans Find New Home, Name

The former Hudson Anglican Fellowship announced today that their growing congregation has purchased a building and will be moving to a new home near the center of historic Hudson, Ohio. Along with their move to the former commercial office space comes a new name for the parish, Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

The new Holy Trinity was formed as a missionary outreach in the Anglican tradition in late 2003 and has grown from a dedicated group of 16 to a congregation of over 130 in the past year and a half. The Anglican Communion is rooted in England and is now a global family of over 75 million. The church's rector, The Rev. Doc Loomis, recalled that the church began meeting in homes, moved to the fellowship halls of two area churches, rented a community room at a local retirement center, and eventually leased space in a nineteenth-century barn on the outskirts of Hudson. "We used to refer to our church as St. Samsonite. We were packing and unpacking church supplies from a suitcase every week. God has blessed us in all our locations," said Fr. Loomis.

The church's new home, located near downtown Hudson, will involve the remodeling of the former Summa Health building at 55 Atterbury Boulevard near the Versailles Apartments. The 8,500 square foot colonial structure was vacated in 2003 after a 100-year flood left much of the Atterbury area under several feet of water. According to church leader Bill Kimmerle, "I was drawn to Holy Trinity because of a void in my spiritual life. Holy Trinity fills that void, and it has filled that void for many others as well. In fact, the growth of our congregation caused us to look for a new place of worship. Although we'll miss our current place of worship (a rustic barn in S. Hudson) we are looking forward to moving into downtown Hudson which will accommodate our growing congregation. We invite everyone to come visit and see why this is the fastest growing church in Hudson." Hal DeSaussure, the church's Senior Warden recalled, "Some of us walked into this building when it first came on the market and knew then that God had set it aside for our home."

Holy Trinity is affiliated with the Anglican Mission in The Americas, an outreach of the African province of Rwanda to the United States. "Like many churches born in the African model, we are a mission-driven church," stated Fr. Loomis. "We are committed to reach a hurting and lost world with a meaningful and dependable Gospel message." Loomis continued, "Holy Trinity is a rare balance of the ancient and the modern in worship. We celebrate from a contemporary version of a liturgy that is over a thousand years old; but our music and our message are absolutely right now." Allen Kannapell, another of Holy Trinity's leaders summarized the church's feelings this way: "Among the things we've learned since our new church's formation, is just how remarkable and reliable God is. For a church to grow as we have and to be embarking on new ministries nearly every month, we must have a God of enormous love and power. We're going to do our best to stay obedient to Him as we grow, and pray that he continues to bless us even more as we work to serve our community."

Holy Trinity expects to be holding its first services in their new home by late November or early December of this year. The church will be hosting a three week long community grand opening around the Advent season.
