Growing works in Lansing and Livonia, Michigan are among the newest congregations to affiliate with the Anglican Mission in The Americas.
In early November, members of two Michigan congregations were welcomed to the Anglican Mission. Christ the King Anglican Church of Lansing had its origins in a small gathering of orthodox Episcopalians who began meeting in the summer of 2003.Discerning God’s will that a new orthodox church should be birthed in Lansing, the newly formed Christ the King Anglican Church held its first service of worship on January 1st, 2005; a date selected to emphasize a new beginning for this faithful family.
With a rotating schedule of regional clergy including The Revs. Dick Kim, Allen Kannapell, Christopher Kelley, and David Kulchar, the unaffiliated mission began meeting at a local UCC church building. Eventually, the congregation invited Rev. Kulchar (AMiA’s New Wine Mission, Flint) to serve as interim through 2006 and to guide them in their processes of affiliation and pastoral recruitment.
Last month, CKAC called The Rev. Jack Lumanog of Kansas as their first rector to begin in January of 2007, and at a recent congregational meeting were welcomed into the Anglican Mission’s Heart of America Network by network leader Doc Loomis after a unanimous congregational vote to affiliate.
CKAC worships on Sunday evenings at the Mayflower Congregation Church in Lansing with about 50 members who are excited about that the Lord has done and is doing in their midst. You can visit or contact Christ the King at: http://www.christthekinganglicanchurch.org
Another Michigan church also had its new beginning in the New Year. The Anglican Church of Livonia under the leadership of the Rev. Allen Kannapell who with many faithful saints walked away from their historic parish at St. Andrews, Livonia earlier this year, was recently welcomed to the Anglican Mission.
Rev. Kannapell was inhibited by his ECUSA bishop on January 7th and on January 8th after only one day of preparation; over 180 converged on a local hotel and conference center for the first service of what would become The Anglican Church of Livonia. Today, the church family meets Sunday mornings at the Livonia YMCA with mid-week services and studies hosted in parish homes.
The church expresses its personality and mission in uncomplicated language: We are not a polished TV-like production show nor are we a formal cathedral. We are simply a typical cross section of people of all ages and from all walks of life working hard in Christ's name to create a welcoming Church that is committed to the Bible and a community which will foster faith and growth in the Lord. We are by God's grace a Church where all can begin and grow a relationship with the Lord: not by peer pressure or arm twisting, but by sharing our own faith through worship services, fellowship, small group study, and various other programs at a pace that is right for you. We are all at different stages of growth in our faith.
