On September 11, the leadership of Raleigh's Church of the Apostles consecrated Rector Steve Breedlove and 37 other adults for a new AMiA church serving Chapel Hill, Durham and the surrounding areas. All Saints Chapel Hill-Durham has been developing in the prayers and hearts of a small group of 16 adults from Chapel Hill who have been faithfully attending Church of the Apostles for over 4 years. The leaders of Apostles nurtured this vision until the time was ripe, and the initial launch team began meeting for on-site prayer, study and planning in late 2004. David Young and Ed Stetzer consulted with the launch team leaders at crucial points along the way, guiding the clarification of the church's mission, vision and values. In April, 2005, representatives of the launch team began interviewing potential rectors, and Steve & Sally Breedlove were called to the church in June.

During the month of August, the existing launch team met weekly to confirm and clarify our identity and strategy as a church. It was a wonderful, growing time as we "connected the dots" between what we believe (doctrine and core commitments) and what we plan to do (strategies and ministries). We are currently in process of officially affiliating with AMiA and seeking to complete the growth of the launch team, asking God to call 50-70 adults to be founding members of this ministry. We hope to begin Sunday morning worship services with a full slate of basic ministries in January. As with most church plants, our most obvious needs are for people to lead and develop our youth and children's ministries, administrative ministries and worship ministries, but we know that our greater need is to grow in prayer, worship, genuine Christian friendship and authentic outreach to the unchurched and dechurched of our wonderful community.
