Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania has appointed an Anglican Mission bishop to their Board of Trustees. The Rt. Rev. Thomas (TJ) Johnston will serve a three-year term on the board that provides leadership for the orthodox Episcopal/ Anglican seminary. The Board’s new Chairman, the Rev. David Roseberry of Plano, Texas, welcomed Bishop Johnston in a letter that reported the Board’s unanimous vote.
“I look forward to welcoming you to the Board of Trustees in a personal and ‘face to face’ way soon,” expressed Canon Roseberry. "Bless you for being a part of the on-going drama of Anglicanism…and the work of TESM.”
Bishop Johnston said he looks forward to serving and engaging with the school’s leadership. “Many people on the board have been friends and heroes of mine.
It’s a great opportunity to build on these friendships and build bridges toward the future,” he stated from Mt. Pleasant, SC, where he serves as Rector of St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
He will join other board members, and members emeritus such as Bishop FitzSimons Allison, Bishop John Rodgers, Bishop Ben Kwashi of Nigeria and Mr. George Gallup, for the next series of meetings in October.
Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry was founded in 1976 for the purpose of educating faithful leaders for the Episcopal Church, USA (ECUSA). Dr. John Rodgers, now a retired Anglican Mission bishop, served as Dean for 12 years, during which time the seminary grew steadily and established itself as a center for renewal and resource for the Episcopal Church. In recent years, due in part to the troubles within ECUSA, it has attracted a number of students who are Anglican, but not necessarily Episcopalian. In this way Trinity serves as a resource for the Anglican Church in North America and around the globe. A number of Anglican Mission pastors are alums, and the AMiA has students currently enrolled.
“The Anglican Mission has a variety of options for leadership development, equipping and training. A strong relationship with TESM is a vital piece in our leadership development matrix,” asserted Bishop Johnston.
