Nigerian AMiA Church in Los Angeles has First Ordination and Confirmation Services
By the Rev. Dr. Mark Quay
All Saints Anglican Church, Los Angeles, got to experience a double blessing—the ordination of its first pastor and
its very first confirmation service.
On September 22, the Rev. Dr. Bennett (Ben) Nworie, an Assistant Professor of Special Edu-cation at Azusa Pacific University, by special permission of Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini, was ordained a deacon and a priest in the same service. The retired Primate of the Province of South East Asia, Archbishop Yong Ping Chung, performed the ordination, assisted by the Rev. Augustine Ogbunugwu, pastor of All Saints Anglican Church (AMiA), Houston, and fellow Nigerian, and the Rev. Dr. Mark Quay, who served as Absp. Yong’s chaplain.
At the same service, 40 women were inducted by the archbishop into the Women’s Guild (a missionary society with deep roots in the Anglican Church in Nigeria) and the Mother’s Union, a family support ministry.
The following day, with over 400 people in attendance, Dr. Nworie presented All Saints’ first group of catechumens for confirmation. Again, Absp. Yong presided at the service in which 35 young people were confirmed. Both services were marked with enthu-siastic, Spirit-filled worship, and anointed preaching of the Gospel.

After the confirmation service, All Saints hosted a celebration, featuring traditional Nigerian food.
Growing rapidly, All Saints currently has about 200 members, the majority of whom are Nigerians. The church is a member of the Little Rock Network under the leadership of Bsp. TJ Johnston and the Hon. David Young.
