Little Rock Network Holds Its Summer Meeting in Little Rock

Little Rock Network Holds Its Summer Meeting in Little Rock

By the Rev. Dr. Mark Quay

The Little Rock Network, under the leadership of the Hon. H. David Young, held its summer meeting on August 22-24, 2007 at St. Andrew’s Church’s new facility on Kanis Road. In the largest Network meeting to date, over 100 clergy and lay leaders from Louisiana to Kansas and California to Alabama gathered together for a time of worship, fellowship, and learning. The meeting began with a joint dinner with St. Andrew’s addiction recovery ministry, Growing in Grace, followed by an open forum with the Network’s bishop, the Rt. Rev. TJ Johnston. Joining Bishop TJ was a special guest, the Most Rev. Yong Ping Chung, the retired Primate of the Church of South East Asia.

Thursday morning began with worship and Bible study, followed by a day of teaching by the Rev. Reggie McNeal, a Southern Baptist minister and well-known author and speaker, who spoke about Missional Architecture for the church. Mr. McNeal challenged the audience to rethink their approach to ministry and make it less about growing a congregation and more about projecting the work of the kingdom of God into the surrounding communities.

On Friday morning, several presentations were made about new ministries within the Network, including a church planting initiative and the Anglican School of Ministry-Little Rock.

Christ Church, Plano, MESA Community Church, Austin, and HopePointe Church, Houston are spearheading a church planting initiative designed to identify, train and deploy church planters. The Rev. Canon David Roseberry, rector of Christ Church, Plano offered a presentation on strategies being developed by the team.

The Rev. Dr. Mark Quay, Dean of the Anglican School of Ministry-Little Rock (ASM-LR), shared with the gathering about this new school, which is a new parish-based training for ordination program. The school is one of the first such programs in the AMiA.

ASM-LR currently offers two certificate programs—one for candidates for the diaconate and the other for lay leaders. Next year it will offer a diploma program for candidates for the presbyterate.

The next Network meeting will be held November 7-9. The location is to be announced in September. For more information, visit www.littlerocknetwork.org
