The neighbor’s eye campaign has saved residents of Nyagatare, Kayonza and Gabiro districts.

This conclusion was asserted on August 18 by Bishop Alexis Bilindabagabo, the leader of the Anglican Church in Gahini, in an exclusive Interview held at his main office in the Kayonza district. The Neighbor’s Eye Campaign is a concerted program in which community residents watch out for each other.

“The people of former Umutara province have responded positively to the neighbor’s eye program by passing information from one person to another for solving problems in the community,” Bishop Bilindabagabo said, and added: “The church in conjunction with Kayonza district has supported the neighbors eye project for the sake of improving society.”

The Bishop mentioned that people are now sending their children to school, in order to avoid penalties brought about by the community as a whole.

“The neighbors’ eye campaign has also put an end to children’s oppression which had dominated Umutara families. As a church we shall continue fighting societal evils till the community becomes whole,” he added.

He noted the church is to hold a peace crusade in November this year which will offer peace management skills to one thousand university students.

Damas Muhororo, the Mayor of Kayonza district hailed the Anglican Church for the good job it’s done in supporting peace activities in the country and said the government is behind the church for national development.
