Church of the Holy Spirit – The River is seeking their next rector. This is the third church in the “Church of the Holy Spirit Family” and a Mid-Atlantic Network Church plant. The Reverend B. Keith Allen the founding rector is transitioning to the role of Associate Rector of CHS Roanoke, but will remain available to assist the new rector as needed.

The River began in the heart of the Vestry and staff of CHS Roanoke and CHS Orchard Hills during a time of prayer. The Lord gave the passion and vision to see an AMiA parish in Blacksburg. The River began in January 2005 as the Allens moved to Blacksburg to join the Sallies, a family from CHS, to begin casting the vision for the new parish. From these simple beginnings a core was built and The River began worship in September 2005 with about 20 people.

The River has been built around five core values. We are seeking to be a church of Small Groups that is Scriptural, Sacramental, Spirit-filled, and Sending to the Nations. These five values are key to making disciples, which is the mission of the church. In order to live these values out we have sought to focus on three ministries:

1. Meeting with God (Worship)
2. Maturing Together (Care Groups)
3. Mission to Others.

Our worship is where we most clearly incarnate the first three values (Scriptural, Sacramental and Spirit-filled) our Care Groups are the place were community, caring and spiritual formation take place and our local, national and international missions flow from our relationship with God and with each other.

The River has a good foundation and a growing core of between 60 and 70 people in worship weekly. We need a rector who will help us continue to grow as disciples who make disciples. He needs to be able to cast a clear vision for the future and raise up leaders to help us reach the goal.
