2010 Winter Conference Wrap-Up
TheAM’s Winter Conference 2010, held January 27-30 in Greensboro, NC, featured dynamic speakers, anointed worship, lively fellowship and a celebration of the Anglican Mission’s 10th anniversary. Over 1400 participants from 37 states and nine countries “joined the journey,” and not even a snow storm that caused some early departures could dampen the sense of excitement and anticipation that marked the event. In addition to Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini, nine Bishops and a bishop-elect from the Rwanda House of Bishops, we were blessed to have retired Archbishops Moses Tay and Yong Ping Chung. Bishop Chuck Murphy also welcomed guest bishops from South Africa, Brazil and the Anglican Church in North America.
The 2010 conference theme – Join the Journey – focused particularly on Isaiah’s call to build up the highway. “Walk out of the gates. Get going! Get the road ready for the people. Build the highway. Get at it! Clear the debris, hoist high a flag, a signal to all peoples! (Isaiah 62:10The Message) Plenary sessions offered a powerful blend of topics addressing mission, spiritual growth, church planting and culture – all geared toward effective Kingdom ministry, and workshops featured a broad scope with speakers from inside and outside theAM.
Dr. J.I. Packer’s daily Bible studies were a highlight for many conference participants, and the worship team led by Andy Piercy was anointed. Other moving components included the opening worship as well as the healing and soaking prayer services; a presentation by Bishop TJ Johnston on his ministry in Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake there; and a tribute to Archbishop Kolini who will retire as Primate of the Province of Rwanda in December of this year.
Described by many as a family reunion, Winter Conference is a wonderful time to connect, learn new ideas, receive encouragement and be inspired for creative and innovation ministry. Most importantly, it is a time when God moves in and through His people, making His presence known and changing lives.
Winter Conference 2011 is scheduled for February 9 – 12 at the Greensboro Sheraton. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend!
