New Rwandan Bishop

Mbanda Family

The Anglican House of Bishops in Rwanda unanimously elected the Rev. Dr. Laurent Mbanda to succeed Bishop John Rucyahana as Bishop of the Shyira Diocese in Musanze, Rwanda. He will be consecrated on March 28, 2010 and will assume responsibility for the diocese on November 14, 2010 – Bishop John’s 65th birthday.

Bishop-elect Mbanda was born in Rwanda, but grew up as a refugee in East Africa. He moved to the US where he earned graduate degrees, became an ordained minister and worked for Compassion International in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for many years.
