Decorated Foreign Missionary Ordained to the Diaconate
Sami Jo Magoffin was ordained to the sacred order of deacons by the Rt. Rev. Philip Jones on August 23, 2010. The ordination took place at St. Andrew’s Church in Little Rock, Arkansas.
A Hot Springs Village, Arkansas resident, Deacon Magoffin is assigned as a bi-vocational deacon to All Saints Anglican Church in the Village.
A physical therapist in private practice, Sami Jo is a 2010 graduate of Anglican School of Ministry, holding the school’s Certificate in Diaconal Studies. She studied at L’Abri in the 70’s under the renowned Christian philosopher and writer, the late Rev. Francis Schaeffer. In addition to her degree in physical therapy, she earned a Master of Public Health in International Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health.
During her 39-year career as a physical therapist, Deacon Magoffin served as a foreign missionary in Africa, Southeast Asia and Central America. Under the auspices of the Christian Blind Mission, she was the Director of Community-Based Rehabilitation in Burkina Faso for four and a half years. Serving with Mercy Ministries of Youth with a Mission (YWAM) for eight years, she led YWAM’s Village Health Care Worker program in Guatemala and was Director of its Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) Rehabilitation Center in Thailand, for which she received the Bronze Cross of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta (the Knights of Malta) for her ministry “to the least of these.”
