“You are the Mission!”

Reggie McNeal delivers a humorous message on being the church instead of doing church.
Dr. Reggie McNeal challenged All Saints Church in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, over the weekend of October 29-31 with some sobering messages on what it means to be a missional church. While his message offered fresh perspective on the realities of church culture, Reggie’s humorous delivery had parishioners laughing while inspiring them to put their faith into action.
Dr. McNeal’s gift is helping individuals, leaders and Christian organizations pursue more intentional living. He is a nationally known speaker and author of numerous books including his latest, Missional Renaissance: Changing the Scorecard for the Church (Jossy-Bass, 2009). Currently, he serves as the Missional Leadership Specialist for Leadership Network of Dallas, Texas.
Reggie defines the missional church as, “the people of God partnering with Him in His redemptive mission in the world” and encourages Christians to “think of the church as a way of being, not a destination.”
Using a heavy dose of comedy, Reggie shares from his own real-life stories as well as others so listeners gain the courage to step out and share Christ naturally in everyday life.
“Instead of waiting for people to come to church, we need to BE the church where people already are…in the Walmarts, restaurants and schools of our communities,” he challenges. “Spend an hour in Walmart and see what God shows you.”
Several participants took up Reggie’s challenge to bless three people throughout the week, reporting back that they gained courage and learned that people often welcome prayer for their needs, even when it is prayer from a stranger.
“You are the mission…what if becoming ‘fully you’ blesses the world?” Reggie asks. “Be fully you…it is our best strategy!”
