Bishop Murphy Appoints Episcopal Vicar

Canon Murphy
The Anglican Mission remains focused on enhancing our approaches to the challenges of long-distance leadership as it continues to make changes in its organizational structure. To that end, Bishop Chuck Murphy, Chairman, has appointed the Very Rev. Canon Mike Murphy as his Episcopal Vicar for the Anglican Mission. In his new role, Canon Murphy will be working closely with Bishop Murphy to carry out specific responsibilities and assignments delegated to him by the Chairman. He will both accompany Bishop Murphy to significant gatherings and represent him when appropriate and will be particularly involved with defining and shaping the Anglican Mission’s role and work with the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).
“I am confident Mike will bring a new dimension to the Mission as he comes alongside me,” explained Bishop Murphy. “He has a broad experience in the business world, in the global Anglican church and in the Mission as a priest, network leader and canon missioner. One of Mike’s additional strengths will be identifying ongoing funding sources.”
“I am delighted to begin this new season in my work with the Anglican Mission,” Canon Murphy said. “I look forward to assisting the Chairman in bringing his vision to fruition.”
Bishop Murphy and Canon Murphy have identified a number of priority goals for the next year. Among these priorities will be an emphasis on ensuring long-term financial health within the Anglican Mission.
“During the next 12 months, I plan to meet with key individuals who have the capacity to give million dollar gifts to the Mission,” noted Canon Murphy. “I intend to broaden our base of donors and encourage increased financial support,” he added.
In addition, Canon Murphy will contribute to ongoing discussions and decisions regarding the health, work and effectiveness of the Anglican Mission’s network system. He will also work with variety of initiatives, including exploring the development of an Anglican Mission model of Cursillo (“a short course in Christian living”).
Canon Murphy will be working at the Mission Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week and will continue with the responsibility to identify and explore new opportunities for mission, a commitment he shares with the other canon missioners.
