St. Peter’s Celebrates Permanent Space

St. Peter's Church new facilities in Mt. Pleasant, SC
Over the past four years, Sunday morning responsibilities for Bishop TJ Johnston include more than delivering an inspirational message to the people of St. Peter’s Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Truck duty came before the sermon. Until recently, his weekly Sunday morning routine included transporting a loaded trailer filled with supplies to transform a school auditorium into a welcoming space for worship. On Christmas Eve, Bishop TJ left the trailer behind and drove to their new permanent sanctuary joining 430 people to celebrate God’s faithfulness.
Bishop TJ pours water, preparing for the baptism of four children on the day of dedication of the new facilities.
“The blessing of not having to set up and take down is hard to express in words,” admits Bishop TJ. “From 1998 until this Christmas, I have led congregations in temporary locations. The fruit of temporary space is the building of community and sense of ownership because of all the hands needed. This past Christmas Eve was sweet, knowing the investment of time, talent and finances everyone made to make St. Peter’s a reality.”
On January 3, East Cooper Christian Preschool relocated to St. Peter’s new facilities and boasts a maximum capacity of 85 children ranging from infants to six year olds. The church’s clergy provide spiritual formation and a daily chapel service for the children, and the preschool staff takes care of the rest.
“It is a great partnership and many of the preschool families have joined us for Sunday worship,” Bishop TJ notes.
On Sunday, January 9, St. Peter’s officially dedicated their new sanctuary, joyfully celebrating the faithfulness of God.
