Lenten Healing Retreat Provides Insight

March 29, 2011

Part of the DNA of New Covenant Church in Winter Springs, Florida, includes a vital healing ministry to wounded people in the community. With a large group of mental health counselors in the congregation, the church desires to mobilize a team of twenty-five people, trained in various types of healing prayer ministry, to use their experience to pray and counsel those in need.

currents 20110401 Pearson Lenten RetreatOn March 18-20, the Rev. Canon Dr. Mark Pearson led a Lenten Retreat of Healing for those actively participating in healing prayer and for those seeking healing. Topics included: Indentifying Roadblocks to Healing, Identifying your Spiritual Gifts for Healing and Eucharist with Healing Prayer.

“Many came for prayer,” reports the Rev. Ruan Humphrey, healing ministry coordinator, “and all who heard the talk on road blocks found a new way of looking at what might be blocking prayers from being answered.”

While there is always an opportunity to receive prayer at New Covenant during Sunday morning worship, Ruan explains that the conference provided a push to be more organized and intentional about expanding the prayer ministry for greater effectiveness. “We always need to be listening to what the spirit is saying and assessing if the person could use additional prayer time. Some people come weekly with the same requests and having a system in place that gets them into more intentional, longer prayer would be helpful. Listening is key.”

As people muster courage, admit their need and ask for prayer at New Covenant, the healing prayer team meets them with a renewed sensitivity to the movement of the Holy Spirit for breakthrough.
