Spiritual Awakening in the Woodlands
February 15, 2011
Last Fall, pastors representing thirty Christ honoring congregations in The Woodlands, Texas gathered for a retreat and began to ask God what it would look like to actually be the church in their region. The pastors entered a time of repentance regarding competition and jealousy that existed like a cloud between them personally.
“We realized that if God had to do that work among us, then he needed to do that in our congregations as well,” explains the Rev. Clark Lowenfield, Rector of HopePointe Church. The spiritual awakening that began among the leaders led to a 21-day corporate prayer and fasting event in January involving all the congregations.
During that three-week period, numerous reports of physician certified healings began to roll in. Clark reports healings of cancer, limbs, joint and tendon damage, marital restoration, admission of infidelity, healing of memories, relationships with parents and demonic possession.
On Saturday, January 30, 700 people gathered at HopePointe Church to celebrate what Christ did among them during the 21 days of prayer and fasting. Now the congregations are following Acts 2 to continue the spiritual awakening God poured out at the beginning of this year. Following Easter, all 30 churches will join for a corporate local outreach and engage the community through the Alpha program in the Fall.
Clark is taking cues from the past as they move forward, noting that Tim Keller’s Church of the Redeemer experienced a spiritual awakening that lasted 18 months resulting in more people coming to salvation in that short time period than in the rest of their entire church history. Charles Spurgeon experienced more people coming to Christ in a three-year period while teaching in England than in the culmination of his entire lifetime as well.
“God sends revival to straighten us out and put us on a path of empowerment that lasts the rest of our lives,” exclaims Clark.
