Clergy Wives Retreat in Asheville Mountains

April 28, 2011

By Guest writer, Ellen Loomis, Ministry Coordinator of Chosen

Women often have difficulty finding time apart from work and daily responsibilities to relax and build relationships with friends. For thirty-eight women who share the role of clergy wife in the Apostles Mission Network, taking time to retreat with others who share similar circumstances proved to be restorative and encouraging.

currents 20110429 chosen retreatOn April 8-10, Anglican Mission clergy wives from the Apostles Mission Network gathered at Montreat Retreat Center in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina for the third retreat of the ministry of CHOSEN, Partners in the Harvest. Teresa Glenn, wife of Bishop Terrell Glenn, led the event for the network, which her husband oversees. Thirty-eight ladies tucked themselves away in the “cleft of the rock” to hear God speak through insightful, encouraging and biblically based teaching by Acton Beard, LPC from Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

The opening evening for the weekend, full of food, fun and fellowship, provided introductions and some time to wind down from daily life. A full day of teaching on Saturday encouraged the wives to understand the honored and empowered position of “keeping her vineyard safe and producing fruit” and moved into an evening to celebrate new freedom in Christ. Sunday wrapped up with teachings that offered tools from Proverbs 31:21 so that “when it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet”.

Here’s what a few of the wives had to say:

“I saw 40 amazing clergy wives experience the love of God and receive truth of our Lord poured into them through the "CHOSEN Ministry". Thank you Lord for those women.” Anne Harvey, Pawley’s Island South Carolina

“WOW! Home from an Anglican Mission clergy spouse conference at Montreat. Blessings beyond belief. Thank you Teresa, Acton and Ellen.” Carolyn Pinkston, Charlotte North Carolina

“I was blessed to attend an amazing retreat of clergy spouses in Montreat, NC this weekend and met many new sisters-in-Christ. God is GOOD!” Dotsi Hoffman, Concord, North Carolina
