Leadership Development

Overview

The Anglican Mission's Department of Leadership Development is committed to identifying, equipping and releasing lay and ordained leadership based on a biblical model. We take seriously Jesus' evaluation that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matt. 9:37; Luke 10:2).

Quality leadership is one of the cornerstones of any effective missional movement...

Leadership Development CompassAnd rather than being overwhelmed by the potential harvest of the 130 million, we simply focus on raising up laborers, both lay and ordained, dedicated to serving their congregations and communities.

To effectively reach this goal our Mission Networks have the flexibility to equip and prepare Lay Pastors as teachers and church planters that fit their particular context and mission strategy. Once individuals are prepared by their Mission Network, they apply for licensure through the Mission's Department of Leadership Development and pursue completion of the requirements.

Clergy credentialing is the centerpiece in the process of identifying, equipping and releasing ordained leaders (deacons and priests). Learn more about clergy credentialing here.

Congregational Discernment

The calling of clergy to a church and leadership transitions are significant moments in the life of a congregation. We Anglicans call it "Parish Discernment," or discerning the will and direction of the Lord. To assist with this process, contact Patti Angulo in the Department of Leadership Development for available resources.

Theological Education

The Anglican Mission recognizes that those seeking ordination or full time ministry come from varied circumstances and theological backgrounds, and so we look to multiple sources for education programs. These educational opportunities include traditional seminaries, distance learning and parish-based education. The Anglican Mission currently works with the following programs to assist in the continued theological formation of our leaders:

  • Church Planting
To fulfill our calling to plant churches - and to ensure that our church planters are well equipped - we work with the following church planting program to help prepare those called to this endeavor:

Rodgers Scholarships
The John and Blanche Rodgers Endowment Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 to support theological education for prospective clergy in the Anglican Mission. The fund is a gift from generous supporters who have grown in grace through the Rodgers' ministry. Scholarships are based first upon a genuine profession of Christian faith and a heartfelt commitment to the mission and doctrine of the Anglican Mission. The second criterion is a demonstrated vocation to ministry as a presbyter in the Anglican Mission and a disciplined life as a promising pastor and theologian as exemplified by the Rt. Rev. John Rodgers. In choosing between qualified candidates, financial need is also a consideration. Scholarships are awarded each summer.
