Everybody Has A Mission

God's love has a way of changing how we think, feel and act. Transforming our minds, hearts, priorities and attitudes, He motivates and equips us to reach out to others with authentic love and service. In short, He calls us to put our faith into action, fueled by His love.

Jesus is the source of the three streams of Anglican Christianity - the Scripture, the Sacred and the Spirit which form our core beliefs. These streams form a life-giving river of mission and ministry that nurtures, heals, transforms and restores, just as a river nourishes the riverbanks through which it flows. For Christians, this means that the three streams serve to inspire and challenge us to demonstrate Christ's love to those in need in our communities and the world who hunger for authenticity, including an authentic faith lived out.

Matt BattersonMark Batterson, Lead Pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC, underscores the call to faith in action. In his book, Wild Goose Chase, he writes, "Some of us live as if we expect God to say, ‘Well thought, good and faithful servant!' or ‘Well said, good and faithful servant.' But God only commends the pursuit of God-ordained passions: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant'." Batterson emphasizes that Christianity is a verb... and an action verb at that.

At theAM, we believe that everybody has a mission, and we encourage our members - and you - to discover God's unique mission and ministry for your life. What is your particular mission field? What is God calling you to do, and how has He wired you to do it? What are the gifts, passions and talents you have right now that can make a difference? What needs in your community or the world ignite a passionate response and fuels you to engage?

action prayer stationThe local church is designed to equip and release its members for ministry in our families, neighborhoods, schools, workplace and communities. Christ-followers are called to share their faith - to be a witness as well as to live their faith by serving others. Such service, characterized by meeting needs and responding to opportunities to make a difference, is relational. We celebrate times of joy, offer comfort in difficult situations, spend time with those who are lonely and help those who are struggling with anything from their finances to their relationships. "Being there" for others is a powerful way to demonstrate the Lord's presence and love.

On a larger scale, addiction, pornography, human trafficking, homelessness, hunger, violence and much more represent threats to society in North America and beyond. In the tradition of Anglican William Wilberforce, who after a powerful conversion experience devoted his political career to abolishing slavery in England, we too can make a significant contribution by engaging these serious social issues with the love of Jesus Christ guiding our every thought, directing our every step.

We invite you to explore the three streams of Anglican Christianity and to learn how we work to fulfill the Great Commission through our Mission Networks and Mission Initiatives. Read the stories of Faith in Action of those in theAm and Rwanda who have shared their faith at home and in foreign lands and reached beyond the church walls to be Jesus' hands and feet to those in need.

We also invite you to come and see, find a local congregation and experience authentic love and outreach.
