Anglican Mission in America’s Winter Conference Draws Record Participation

The Anglican Mission in America (AMiA) will host its annual Winter Conference January 17-20, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel and Conference Center, Jacksonville, Florida.   A record crowd of over 1200 participants, including 40 international Anglican leaders with eight archbishops (six active and two retired) will hear reports from the movement’s leaders, as well as keynote speakers that will challenge and encourage clergy and laity alike.   Rather than a business meeting, the AMiA’s Winter Conference is a time to highlight the missionary vision of the movement, worship and pray together, and grow in a number of key areas that relate to effective ministry.

“We are a missionary movement — that’s our call and identity,” said the Rt. Rev. Chuck Murphy, Chairman of Anglican Mission.   “We gather annually to celebrate and focus on the Gospel call to go and make disciples, and I look forward to welcoming our largest gathering to date.”   Bishop Murphy will present a “state of the Mission” in the first plenary session of the conference scheduled for Thursday morning.

The 2007 Winter Conference theme, drawn from Isaiah 54, is centered on expanding and strengthening mission, taking seriously God’s call to “Enlarge the place of your tent…strengthen your stakes” (Isaiah 54:2-3). Dr. J. I. Packer, renowned author and theologian, will teach daily devotions; Andy Piercy, most recently from Holy Trinity Brompton, London, home church of the Alpha Course, will lead worship; and internationally acclaimed speakers presenting keynote addresses include the Rev. Canon Michael Green, Becky Pippert, the Rev. Jack Deere, Andy Piercy and Greg Bunch.   Practical and interactive workshops will be offered on a wide variety of topics   designed to strengthen gifts, skills and ministries including leadership, prayer, personal evangelism, team building, spiritual formation, spiritual gifts, children’s and youth ministry, worship, marriage and family, healing, building dynamic churches, effective communications, discipleship and affiliating with the Anglican Mission.

The Anglican Mission in America was formed in 2000 as a missionary movement of the Anglican Province of Rwanda charged with building an alliance of congregations committed to gathering, planting and serving dynamic Anglican churches in North America.   Rooted in the history and tradition of East Africa’s revival, the Anglican Mission understands its mission field to be the 130 million un-churched individuals in the US.   On average, Anglican Mission has added a new church every three weeks since its beginning and expects this momentum to build, with 95 affiliated congregations, 13 fellowships, 35 groups in process and some 30 others in early stages of conversation or formation.
