Archbishop Kolini Makes Second Pastoral Visit to Tampa

The challenge has not ended with the consecration of the remodeled church, parishioners of Church of the Resurrection in Tampa were reminded during the solemn liturgy for the dedication of church on Saturday, Jan 21 by the Most Reverend Emmanuel Kolini, Primate and Archbishop of Kigali, who was celebrant and preacher at the consecration.
Taking his theme from the readings and the Gospel for the afternoon liturgy, Archbishop Kolini told the parishioners that to worship authentically in spirit and truth, and to remember that they are called to do the work as citizens of another kingdom not of this world and that was the challenge for mission that he wanted to share with them.

He likened the new church to a the image of being a beacon on a hill, he reminded them that they are members of the household of God and that they should continue to be united amidst division that sometimes plague the wider church. Sharing in this celebration with the Resurrection Community and the Archbishop, were clergy from New Covenant, Orlando, the clergy staff of Church of the Resurrection. Fr.. Jim Nilon of Sarastoa and Fr. Berhanu Bekele of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church

The first permanent home for the Resurrection Community is a former Church of Christ that has been completely renovated with a worship Space in honor of one of the founders James Chesson, which is a 145 seat space called Chesson Chapel, complemented by a Parish Hall, named after longtime priest associate of the community, Fr. Jack Meyer, thus named Meyer Hall. The spaces are joined by a enclosed hallway that connects them to the St. Gabriel Memorial Garden, Ministry Center Offices and Education Wing. The Church was renovated by three months of work days by the parishioners under the direction of Contractor and Junior Warden, Pat Corcoran.

Chesson Chapel's liturgical furnishings were designed especially for the space by liturgical architect Calvin Hefner of Charlotte and Sadie Koppelberger of the Resurrection Parish Staff. Archbishop Kolini commented that they are both beautiful and simple and fitting for worship in this space.

Saturday evening, following the consecration liturgy, the parish celebrated with a Banquet in the new Meyer Halll. There Archbishop and Mrs. Kolini enjoyed the fellowship of the parish taking pictures and enjoying the feast. At the dinner a check of $2500 was presented to Archbishop Kolini for the ministry of the Creche at the cathedral in Kigali, that the Resurrection Mission Team was a part of in the Mission trip of June 2005.

The following morning His Grace celebrated the Sacraments of Initiation with the Parish, Baptizing 2 infants and Confirming and Receiving 15 individuals between the ages of 16 and 60 who were prepared for the sacrament by Fr. Lucas Koach .In his Sunday Sermon, his Grace challenged the parish not rest at having built a building but to be the living, breathing Body of Christ, bearing witness to Him in a world that so desperately needs the truth and moral guidance of the "faith once delivered to the saints". At the end of the liturgy Archbishop and Mrs. Kolini were given gifts of appreciation by members fo the Resurrection Mission Team. In the evening a community forum was held in Meyer Hall where the Archbishop addressed life in Rwanda after the genocide.

Archbishop and Mrs. Kolini have a special place in the life of Resurrection Parish and this weekend demonstrated that again on this second visit.
