Church of the Redeemer Purchases Property

From Pat Shepherd, Church of the Redeemer Leadership

"On August 8, 2004 Church of the Redeemer in Nashville, TN held our first service on a Sunday evening in the worship center of a local area Church of Christ. After eighteen months of Sunday evening worship services at the home of our generous and supportive host, we purchased our own church home and held our first Sunday morning worship service on February 5, 2006. With 200 worshippers in attendance, it was a glorious day in the life of our church as we celebrated God’s faithfulness and generosity that brought us to this point and to this place that far surpasses what we might ever have planned for ourselves.

Back in August 2004 it seemed a high priority to find suitable property to purchase as soon as possible, but in retrospect the Lord’s firm hand of guidance that gathered us together in the twilight hours of each and every Sunday evening also forced us to focus our attention on his direction for mission and ministry rather than on the demands of a new facility. That was a gift that perhaps none of us foresaw at the time.

Interestingly, in September 2004 our leadership team visited the old Cumberland Presbyterian Church property that would later become our home. Something clicked then, a sense that this was the place, a sense of warmth, welcome and home. We never quite got it out of our hearts and after months of looking at every available piece of potential church property (including even a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in a near-by inner-city neighborhood) we finally cut a deal that brought us to the place where we can begin to put down some roots.

We’re near the heart of downtown Nashville, the university area, Music Row, and the glittering night-life that is such a draw to the 20/30-something generation. We’re also about 2 miles from that Piggly Wiggly where the artistic/university community and the inner-city ghetto converge. This is the area to which we’re called. We’re on a mission.

Come worship with us when you’re in Nashville-- we would love to have you. The Lord is present in this place! "
