Reaching to the Future in Morehead City

On April 10, 2005 All Saints Episcopal Church in Morehead City, North Carolina, met together at the Crystal Coast Civic Center for a historic morning of worship, fellowship and presentation of the planned phase I development of their new church campus. It was the first time in anyone's recollection that all of the parishioners worshiped together in one place and at one time on a Sunday morning. The morning marked the beginning of a 2 month capital campaign intended to gain commitments toward the $3.8 million first phase of development.

The theme of the campaign is Building for Ministry: Rooted in the Past ~ Reaching to the Future. Jeremiah tells us that when we trust in the Lord we are like a tree with deep roots that will bear fruit.

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah. 17:7-8

The Rev. Miller said about the plans, "Our parish is stretching to reach to the future that God has for us so that we will never fail to bear fruit." He added, "We are committed to reaching our children, grandchildren and even those generations yet unborn. In addition we are called to be a place of refuge and shelter for those who are searching for spiritual life and in need of a community faithful to Jesus where they can encounter the Holy Spirit and find the life more abundant that only God can give."

One of the highlights of the day was an unexpected visit from The Rev. Nathan Amooti from Rwanda. The Rev. Amooti shared with the gathered parish about his own journey in building their current church building in Kigali and how they have already outgrown it.

After the worship service and breakfast the capital campaign presentation was highlighted by a presentation from Wes McClure of McClure/Hopkins Architects. In his presentation Mr. McClure unveiled the preliminary design drawings of the estimated 23,000 s.f. phase I which includes worship space with seating for 400, parish hall, rooms for music and Christian education and well as administrative offices.

The new campus will be located on 12 acres of property on McCabe Road which All Saints purchased last August. The land was paid off within 30 days after closing.
