Hope Crusade for Rwanda

by Grace Mugabe
Bishop John Rucyahana has announced a unique hundred days-long crusade in remembrance of Rwanda’s Genocide, to commence on April 7, in a bid to revive hope
which millions of Rwandans lost during the 1994 massacre. The Hope an d Transformation Project, chaired by Bishop John Rucyahana, brings together various Christian denominations in Rwanda. The Bishop made the announcement to the press on March 1 while at his Diocesan offices in Shyira, in the Northern region.

He said he expects large crowds to attend, led by Rwandan and international evangelists, for the sake of praising and reconciling God to the Rwandans after the horrific event that claimed a million innocent lives.

"The time has come for Rwandans to share, to love one another for the sake of pleasing God the almighty. We want Rwanda to be productive physically, mentally and economically for the purposes of building the nation," Bishop Rucyahana said, adding that the aim of the crusade is to see the global church united and bringing God’s hope and glory to the people of Rwanda.

"The Crusade has the philosophy that if the Devil used 100 days to destroy Rwanda, what if God uses his power in 100 da ys? How much can he build Rwanda?" he asked.

Bishop Rucyahana added that the Hope and Transformation project would include evangelistic outreach from the national stadium in the capital of Kigali and spread to all the regions. Leadership training, worship seminars, business workshops, women’s ministries, prison outreach, youth impact and initiation of projects like building, education, medical and humanitarian aid to help the Rwandan society will be accomplished during this period.

"Concerning the medical project, all Rwandans who have heart problems will be treated free of charge at King Faisal Hospital. We will have health experts from Australia and America, who will offer proper treatment to Rwandans with heart problems," he added.

He added that humanitarian projects will include distribution of 2.2million copies of the ‘Book of Hope’, enough to cover 2,900 schools as well as distribution of 250,000 gift boxes to every orphan through Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Program. And the project will also cover street children and the impoverished people.

"Rwandans will regain confidence and be transformed and strengthened in hope. This will create a strong nation, equipped to teach the next generation positive things as enshrined in the Bible," the visionary Bishop said.

More from Rwanda on this:

Book of Hope, in connection with dozens of ministries, musicians, businesses, and humanitarian and para-church organizations from around the world, will lead the effort to bring children and youth in Rwanda new hope as a part of "Hope Rwanda: 100 Days of Hope." The international Christian relief effort coincides with the dates of Rwanda's 100 days of genocide April 7 - July 15, 1994. In an effort to combat the horror of those 100 days, H ope Rwanda will flood the country with all kinds of humanitarian care. Book of Hope will send volunteer teams to each of the nearly 2900 schools in the country, seeking to meet every child, and distribute two million Book of Hope Scripture books to those children. Each distribution event features a dynamic, hour-long presentation that includes drama, music and personal testimonies. At the end of each week, every student will be invited to a citywide celebration event called Hopefest that will bring the message of Jesus to children and their families in an exciting festival setting. "The president of Rwanda has given his approval and blessing for all of our programs," said Rob Hoskins, executive director of Book of Hope. Part of Book of Hope's outreach will be the showing of the organization's new full-length animated feature version of the Book of Hope called The GodMan.
