On Saturday, June 23, 2007, Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini
joined over one thousand people who gathered at Shyogwe Diocese in the
southwestern part of the Province of Rwanda to celebrate the 60th anniversary of
the secondary and primary schools there. Shyogwe secondary and primary schools
are missionary schools under the Anglican Diocese of Shyogwe and were built in
1944 by missionaries from the west.
"Shyogwe School is blessed because
it was built on the concrete foundation of Christ," Archbishop Kolini said.
He encouraged the enthusiastic audience to act as ambassadors of Christ
for the good of the society by proclaiming God's word and emphasizing hope and
harmony.
Local government officials as well as foreign diplomats
attended the event, and Minister Protais Musoni, urged the crowd to put into
action what Archbishop Kolini said for the good of the nation. He hailed
Archbishop Kolini for the Anglican Church in Rwanda's efforts that have made
done toward building peace and undertaking evangelism.
Despite the
achievements of the schools, leaders note that they are still affected by the
aftermath of the 1994 Genocide which caused the death of over one million
innocent Rwandans. Shyogwe schools lost numerous students and teachers to
Genocide due to their ethnic background.
