Hope Rwanda to Leave Legacy

After 100 days of focused energy and activity, Hope Rwanda has concluded in a major stadium event in the capitol city of Kigali. Organizers are reporting that the three months will have a lasting impact on the Rwandan people, and are hopeful that July 15th, which marked the conclusion of the crusade, will become an important date on the annual calendar.

Australian pastor Mark Zschech had the initial idea for the 100 day program that would echo, in a positive fashion, the 100 days of killing during the 1994 genocide, in which nearly a million Rwandans lost their lives. He and his songwriter-wife, Darlene, visited the country during the three months and were part of the closing crusade. They served as catalysts for others throughout the world who participated in preaching, teaching, building schools and providing medical care.

About 15,000 people attended the closing crusade ceremony, in which Hope Rwanda’s chairman, Bishop John Rucyahana, put the three months in perspective, saying that the work is only beginning.

Throughout the three months, over 50,000 people made public commitments to the Lord, as a part of crusades directed to youth, children and adults in all of the country’s provinces. Construction included ten houses for widows, one school and five wells. A team of Australian heart surgeons performed the first open-heart surgeries, with a follow-up visit planned for September. The Book of Hope was distributed to every primary school student in the country.
